A onetime presidential hopeful in the Democrat Party has announced her decision to leave what she now is describing as an "elitist cabal of warmongers."
Tulsi Gabbard, who retired from her position representing Hawaii in Congress in 2021, announced online on Tuesday her decision, and her invitation for other Democrats who can "no longer stomach the direction that this so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country, I invite you to join me."
She said:
I can no longer remain in today's Democratic Party that's under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers who are driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution, Who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, who demonize the police but protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, who believe in open borders, who weaponize a national security state to go after their political opponents and above all, who are dragging us ever closer to the nuclear war. Now I believe in a government that's of the people, by the people and for the people. Unfortunately today's Democrat Party does not. Instead it stands for a government that is of, by and for the powerful elite. Now I'm calling on my fellow, common sense, independent minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party. If you can no longer stomach the direction that the so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country, I invite you to join me."
Since Gabbard retired from the House, she has been publicly critical of her former party, particularly Joe Biden.
She did not, at this time, announce further plans, whether that would include joining the Republican Party or adopting another affiliation.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Republican, praised her, arguing she is one of many Americans who traditionally were Democrat, but now find that party, of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, unrecognizable.
He said she "has always been sort of an independent maverick. And I think when she ran for president, she realized how really isolated she was from the great majority of the Democratic Party, which is now, frankly, a pretty weird party….I think you're seeing this drift. And we've certainly seen among Latinos a huge drift towards the Republican Party as they're driven away by the weirder policies of the Democratic Party."
The party under Biden, in fact, has moved for open borders, a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, massive inflation including high interest rates that are costing low- and middle-income Americans thousands of dollars, gasoline prices of more than $6 a gallon, a general instability around the world, new threats from Russia and China and more.
