The funeral for George Floyd, the African American man killed while being arrested on Memorial Day in police custody on Memorial Day, took place at Fountain of Praise Church in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, and the Democrats saw fit to make it all about them.
Democrats seemingly hijacked the funeral of George Floyd to use it as a Joe Biden rally as the former VP delivered a video speech and two Texas Democrats, Reps. Al Green and Sheila Jackson-Lee, physically attended the gathering.
Joe Biden’s video address spoke on the matter of racism – something that Biden himself has a questionable history of as he recently told a black American interviewer that he was “not black” if he didn’t vote Democrat.
“Why, in this nation, do too many black Americans wake up knowing that they could lose their life in the course of just living their life? Why does justice not roll like a river, or righteousness like a mighty stream? Why? Well, ladies and gentlemen, we can’t turn away. We must not turn away. We cannot leave this moment thinking we can once again turn away from racism that stings at our very soul, from systemic abuse that still plagues American life” Biden said in the pre-recorded address.
Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee later compared the death of Floyd – who had a troubled history of crime and violence – to the crucifixion of Jesus, noting he had been killed by wicked men, but for greater good.
“George Floyd was here on an assignment,” Lee said, adding that he had inspired worldwide calls for justice.
At one point during a video montage, Floyd was likened to civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as to Malcolm X, with a mural showing Floyd standing with the iconic black leaders, both of whom were killed.
Rep. Al Green added that “[Floyd] changed not only this country, not only the United States — he changed the world! George Floyd changed the world.”
Rev. William “Bill” Lawson, pastor emeritus, of the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church claimed removing Trump from the White House would be good for the black community – despite the fact that black Americans have experienced new levels of prosperity and widespread wellbeing thanks in part to Trump’s policies.
“Obviously, the first thing that we have to do is to clean out the White House,” Rev. Lawson said, to applause, adding that people should also vote for better state and local leadership.
Rev. Lawsom then expressed his hope that the ongoing protests “shall continue, so that this movement will transform this corrupt world. Praise God for George Floyd.”
Many mourners practiced social distancing due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with those in attendance wearing masks but Rev. Lawsom joked that attendees had “destroyed all laws of social distancing.”
The service took another strange turn when Far-left MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton, who was also in attendance, touched on a liberal talking point. Sharpton used the platform to demand reparations for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
“Oh, it’s nice to see some people change their mind, head of the NFL said yeah, maybe we was wrong. Football players, maybe they did have the right to peacefully protest. Well, don’t apologize. Give Colin Kaepernick a job back!” Sharpton said to the audience.
“Don’t come with some empty apology,” he continued. “Take a man’s livelihood, strip a man down of his talents. And four years later when the whole world is marching, all of a sudden you go and do a FaceTime talking about you sorry!” Sharpton said.
Sharpton then continued, “Minimizing the value of our lives! You sorry? Then repay the damage you did to the career you stood down, because when Colin took a knee, he took it for the families in this building and we don’t want an apology. We want him repaired.”
